I thought I would take a moment to acknowledge a wonderful organization in our community. APRON Inc. was founded in 2011 by a group of folks with ties to our local restaurant scene. Its mission is to provide financial support to restaurant workers employed by locally owned establishments who are experiencing financial distress. Workers who have experienced illness, injury, family emergency and other catastrophic events may be eligible for assistance. Supporters of APRON include owners, chefs, service staff, private donations as well as numerous fundraising projects. I have personally witnessed the operation at work with a former employee. I was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency and timeliness of the process. Recently during the holidays, Apron partnered with Brown-Forman and Republic National Distributing Company. This project provided 2000 Kroger grocery vouchers totaling $100,000 to restaurant workers dealing with the loss of income due to the pandemic. We should all be proud to have such a great organization in our community.
